Local Scenes update - Penistone - South Yorkshire

Last autumn I began a casual project to spend time exploring my local countryside, shooting landscapes as close to home as possible. The scenery around Penistone, Barnsley and the northern Peak District has a really interesting mix of opportunities. With the Peak District offering the moorland scenes, Penistone the rural farmlands and Barnsley the mining heritage with well preserved woodland and magnificent country houses. Exploring the local countryside has been really interesting and I've discovered all kinds of places I'd not usual think to visit. Whilst some of the images are more snapshots from country walks, in a way this is a more natural approach to capturing the images rather than set out with my full landscape photographer toolkit capturing a more natural view of the scenery.

My main job has been very busy this year and so being able to either walk or drive a short distance for some photography has enabled me to keep my eye in and practice the new techniques needed to shoot with the full frame Sony. The dynamic range of the A7ii means that I no longer need to carry graduated filters, travelling light makes life much easier.

We've been incredibly lucky with the weather this year and on the whole we've had great conditions during spring and summer. Below are a selection of images from the project spanning from autumn 2018 to august 2019:
