Christmas Day Seascape Photography at Filey Bay - Yorkshire
I spent this Christmas with my family over in Filey on the Yorkshire Coastline. On Christmas morning I made my way down to beach with grey skies overhead expecting not many opportunities for seascape photographs but thought it would be good to get out an breathe in the fresh sea air. The sky began to develop as soon as I arrived down the the Filey promenade, a little break in the clouds down the coast over Flamborough Head & Bempton Cliffs began to allow a little of the sunrise to reflect on the calm sea. I took a few images from below the sea wall before moving further down the beach. Shortly before sunrise the sun began to poke through with a little spectacular light and colour in the clearing sky. My early thoughts of a morning with no results was quickly proved wrong and as usual it taught me that trips are often worthwhile even when you think there is little chance of coming back with any coastal landscape images which would be keepers. I finished the morning back on the Filey sea wall shooting the sunrise using the features to try to stitch the strong color and elements of the scene together to make a set of photographs that I was extremely happy with.
Below is a sideshow of the best images from the morning, I hope to return to photograph the seafrot at Filey on trips this year concentrating more on the northern end of the sea wall and Filey Brigg.
