Parkhouse Hill, Peak District National Park

Photo of Parkhouse Hill from Chrome Hill | Gallery | Peak District Photography

Situated in the southern Peak District, Parkhouse Hill and its neighbour Chrome Hill are a real magnet for walkers and landscape photographers. The land formations are very different to other areas of the Peak District and it shows how diverse the terrain is throughout the Dark & White Peak areas. I took this image on a cold December morning not too long after sunrise, the ground was frozen under foot and the frost can be seen on the shaded side of Parkhouse Hill.

Parkhouse Hill has real geological interest as it is the remains of an atoll also know as a reef knoll that was created during the carboniferous period when the land in the area was at the bottom of the sea. The size and scale of this hill is difficult to capture, if this image was printed at full size you would see a group of walkers just near the top of the hill which adds scale to the final image.

The walk down from the village of Earle Sterndale village towards Glutton Bridge and up and across the magnificent peaks of Parkhouse Hill & Chrome hill is a walk every Peak District visitor should take on. Although not to far in distance the diversity of the scenery and the views from the top of Chrome Hill are magnificent.
