Are your images Photoshopped?
03rd March 2014 - 0 comments
I often get asked whether my photos have been ‘Photoshopped’ or ‘is that real’? This question normally relates to the strong colours in my images and the even lighting, I try to emulate in my photos the same brightness range that the human eye can distinguish rather than the dynamic range that modern cameras are capable of capturing something that isn’t possible without the correct equipment and technique so people simply put this down to the use of Photoshop.

River Coupall - from RAW file to finished image

It is always an interesting discussion with another photographers regarding the differences in the digital RAW file which comes straight from the camera and the final processed, re-sized and polished version which will ultimately end up in the public domain on websites and in print. The discussion often centers around how touchy many photographers can be about their processing techniques and the amount of processing that has gone into the image to make the final presented image file.

During my time in Newcastle I made many early morning trips to the glorious North Tyneside coastline, the beaches are some of the best so close to any city in the UK. Running from the mouth of the Tyne up to Whitley bay the coastline forms a photographers playground with rocky outcrops, man made harbors and piers, the historic Tynemouth priory, glorious sandy beaches and to top it off the famous St Mary’s Lighthouse just north of the beaches at Whitley Bay.

Here is a pick of my favourite photographs featuring the River Avon at various places in Warwickshire.
