Looking back at 2014 – A yearly review of photography trips and favourite photographs

25th December 2014
2014 has been a very successful year for my photography and so my business and following has continued to grow. Whilst I haven't made it out into the countryside as much as I would have liked this year I have continued to build my image catalogue with some new areas and repeat visits to locations in better conditions.

Just before the start of the year I purchased a new Nikon D7100 with the hope that this will be the camera I will be able to keep for a number of years. The results have been very impressive and have been everything I expected and had hoped for in my previous Nikon D7000. The quality of the files that come out of the camera are outstanding and the amount of data captured in the highlights and shadows of the RAW files make dealing with the differences in light levels experienced in landscape photography much easier to deal with. Coupled with the Nikon 17-55mm F2.8 lens the clarity of the images is beautiful and shows how much camera technology has progressed since my first DSLR camera (Nikon D50) back in 2006.

At the start of the year I spent a week with friends in Glencoe and managed to capture the mountains and rivers in some pretty rough weather. We had a great week and came back with a handful of images I was happy with and these can be seen on my blog post >.

During May I made my first trip to Pembrokeshire > which I absolutely loved, I found the scenery to be similar to Cornwall but had a much more rural and laid back feel. I will be planning a few return trips now I know my way around the area and can target some of the lesser known beaches and inland locations.

In September we spent a week in Newquay and managed to spend a good few evenings on the beaches up and down this section of the Cornwall coastline. As this was mainly a holiday it was great to have a central location in Newquay and only have travel a few minutes in either direction to visit some great parts of the coastline. I came back from the trip with a set of Newquay images > that I am extremely happy with. We plan to also head back to Cornwall in 2015 to explore some of the coastline around Padstow.

This year I produced 5 landscape photography calendars > featuring the British Isles, Peak District, Lake District, Scottish Highlands & Sheffield. I also produced a number of calendars based on the above for commercial clients with added company logos and personalised business dates. In all there will be over 700 Nickscape calendars in various forms this year up on the walls around the UK and worldwide.

I've invested a lot of my spare time this year working on and developing the business side of my photography and working on optimising my website. The work is finally paying off as I begin to receive regular print orders and have licensed a good amount of photos this year for various commercial uses >, this year my images have appeared in Magazines, Calendars and on the walls of commercial premises. I also now have a good range of mounted prints all ready made and have kept the cost of these as low as possible to make them affordable to everybody. My print range are all held in stock and so available for immediate delivery and include a few different standard frame sizes, these can be seen here >.

All of the pictures in the gallery on this site are available to purchase, again these prices and sizes have been designed to minimise the cost by opting for standard high street frame sizes, these products are made to order. During 2014 I have also taken on a number of editing projects which have proved both interesting and useful for developing my Photoshop and design skills. In 2015 I hope to keep developing the business and put more time into getting out and taking photos again with a few good trips in the planning stages for the coming year.

I have chosen my favourite 15 images taken during 2014 that I am particularly happy with and a set of images which I hope together sum up the past year. May I take this opportunity to pass on my best wishes for a happy and successful 2015 and to thank you all for your continued support through visits to this site and interaction and sharing on my social media channels.

Best Wishes, Nick
